Wimbledon 2025: Taylor Fritz goes to semi -finals for the first time with victory over Karen Khahanov

After Khachanov returned to bring the score to 4-4, Fritz once again used his dominant serve to get ahead. That brought Khachanov to a situation where he had to serve to stay alive. He did exactly that, so that Fritz was busy putting his way to a lead again.

Fritz got it again and took a 6-5 lead in the set. With the game in his grip, Fritz could not get it done, which led to a tiebreak.

For the last time, Fritz dominated his serve attempts to force Match Point. With Khachanov who served, Fritz finally finished the game with a well-placed kill shot on a ball that hung in the air for far too long.

The victory marks the furthest Fritz on Wimbledon. Prior to Tuesday’s victory, Fritz only appeared at the event in the quarterfinals. He reached that stage in Wimbledon in 2022, but lost Van Rafael Nadal.

The hope of Fritz will become much more difficult from here, because he could meet Carlos Alcaraz in the semi -final. Alcaraz takes Cam Norrie on Tuesday. Alcaraz would push a victory for the third consecutive year in the semi -final in Wimbledon. Alcaraz was won Wimbledon each of the last two years.

Fritz is not only looking for his first victory at Wimbledon, he also wants to become the first American man to win the event in 25 years. The last American to accomplish that performance was Pete Sampras, who defeated Patrick Rafter in the final in 2000. It was the seventh – and last – times Sampras won the event.
