by Health and Human Services -Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has suddenly postponed a meeting of another important federal advisory panel that is responsible for making health recommendations about preventive care.
Members of the US Preventive Services Task Force were informed by e-mail that the direct office of the secretary postpones the personal meeting that is planned for 10 July, according to someone with knowledge of the situation that is not authorized to speak publicly.
The relocation sounds alarm bells while it reflects the actions of the secretary that will fire all 17 members of another Federal Advies Panel in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in June, Dr. Aaron Carroll, CEO of AcademyHealth, a non -profit medical group.
It also follows a recent decision of the Supreme Court that Kennedy can remove aware of the members of the Task Force as desired and can revise their recommendations before they come into effect.
The deferred meeting “is worrying,” said Carroll. “Given what has just happened to Acip, there is a real fear that this could happen again with USPSTF.”
