PKK disarmament to take in Iraq for a few months, says the ruling party of Turkey

Istanbul (Reuters) -The transfer of weapons by the Outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Iraq, after her decision to dissolve, should be completed within a few months, a Spoperson said for the reigning AK party of Turkey Late Wednesday.

With Omroep NTV, Omer Celik said that a confirmation mechanism, including officials of Turkish intelligence and the armed forces, will oversee the transfer process.

“The disarmament … Process (in Iraq) must be completed within three to five months … If it exceeds this period, it will be vulnerable to provocations,” said Celik on NTV.

The PKK, who has been stuck in a bloody conflict with the Turkish state for more than four decades, decided in May to resolve and end the armed battle.

PKK -Militants will hand over Weapons on Friday in the North -Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah as part of the peace process with Turkey.

Since the PKK in 1984, his rebellion against Turkey launched – originally with the aim of creating an independent Kurdish state – the conflict has killed more than 40,000 people, imposed a huge economic burden and stimulated social tensions.
