Retailers extend the summer sales in the battle for consumers of bargain hunting

Large retailers expand their summer sales in an attempt to record consumer spending prior to a potentially uncertain economic period.

Amazon has extended its Prime Day event to four days, from 8-11 July, while Walmart, Target and Tiktok Shop have launched parallel sale that overlap or extend beyond the first day window.

This aggressive disconnection reflects increased competition in retail, because companies try to win market share in the midst of shifting consumer behavior, increasing inflation and threatening concerns about new rates for Chinese import.

Amazon’s Prime Day, originally an event of 48 hours, now runs 96 hours. The company said that the extensive window consumers enable more time to find value during a period of economic pressure.

The timing of this expansion coincides with reports of possible tariff increases on goods made by Chinese, a movement that could increase prices for both retailers and consumers in the coming months.

To compensate for potential supply chain volatility, Amazon has also strengthened its logistics infrastructure in important filling areas. Shoppers in the United States are expected to issue an estimated $ 23.8 billion during this year’s Prime Day period, an increase of 24% compared to 2024, according to analysts cited by Shop.

The sale is powered by a mix of AI-GE Personalized product placements, limited time discounts and exclusive offers for prime members.

Analysts say that Amazon’s decision to double the duration of the event for the coming years can form a precedent, especially because rivals start to match or surpass the efforts of the company.

Walmart has responded with a six -day sales event that can attract both the store and online shoppers.

The promotion, which started shortly before Prime Day, is pitched as a wider seasonal campaign instead of a one-time flash sale. Target has adopted a similar approach, which extends its summer agreements to compete directly with the Amazon window.

Retail experts note that these longer promotions enable retailers to prevent them from avoiding head-to-head comparisons at exact prices or shipping speed, while still offering savings in multiple product categories.

This distribution in dates also reduces the pressure on logistics networks and gives customers greater flexibility when shopping.

Despite the fact that they do not have membership based program such as Amazon Prime, Walmart and Target have not used their existing loyalty systems and pick-up options in the store to remain competitive.

Tiktok Shop, a newer participant in the American e-commerce room, has launched a 13-day “Summer Savings” campaign that started at the end of June and runs until mid-July.
