Trump says he ‘at’ federal takeover of Washington, DC is looking

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he weighs a federal takeover of Washington, DC, spray fake claims about unbridled crime in the capital of the country, and hinted that he could pursue the same with New York City.

Trump, who drove the idea for the first time in February, brought the acquisition in the Oval Office when a reporter asked him who he thinks republicans should support in the coming mayor of New York. Trump said that he “is not involved”, but continued with the ditch of the Democratic nominated Zohran Mamdani as a “disaster” and “communist” who would be bad for the city.

“We have an enormous power in the White House to run places when I have to,” Trump said before he revealed that he was already “testing” to take over Washington.

“We are thinking about doing it, to be honest. We want.

“We could run DC, I mean, we look at DC We don’t want a crime in DC We want the city to go well,” he also said, adding that the mayor of the city, Democrat Muriel Bowser, “works very closely” with Staff Chef of the White House Wiles.

Bowser’s office refused to comment when asked about Trump’s comments.

“We would do it so well,” Trump said about the district. “It would be done so well. We would get the best person to perform it. The crime would be a minimal – would be much less.”

Violent crime in Washington reached the lowest point in 30 years in 2024 and falls 35% compared to 2023, according to the Metropolitan Police Department of the city. This includes a reduction in murders by 32% and a decrease of 39% of robberies. The crime rates continued to fall in 2025.

When Trump first raised the idea in February, he was mainly focused on the presence of unhuised people in the capital of the nation.

“Too many tents on the lawns – these beautiful lawns,” he said, adding to it, “you can’t have tents for all your beautiful – your beautiful square and lawns.”

The congress already has the authority to check and destroy the laws of the district, but Trump does not yet have to offer information about how he would pursue a federal acquisition of the city.

Some Republican legislators have insisted to dissolve the home Rule Act of 1973, which handed over some of the powers of the Congress over the city to the local government. Republicans will probably not achieve that without a filibus meeting majority in the Senate.
